Comet Skateboards is stoked to release the Pagan in its final form. We hooked up Colorado charger Justin Dubois to add this much needed board to our line of skateboards. Comet offers this board in 2 constructions: 9 ply maple and e2e / maple construction.
This board has a medium rocker / concave / spoon - like shape. The front foot pocket is the driving force for this Downhill machine.
Here is a word from Justin about the origins of the Pagan...
I have a good friend I call Rambo. He hails from the mossy forests of Oregon. He carries big knives in public. He sometimes wears a cloak. And he occasionally goes to the woods to be alone. He is the true Pagan. He often warns us of the trappings of Babylon.
When Cooper and I started building boards in my shop, were we felt like we were building weapons to fight Rambo's good fight. They were a little crooked, and they had a hellaciously steep concave, but we liked them.
We didn't know what was possible, and therefore we had no expectations. Dropping in on mountain roads that we NOW know are world class speedboard runs. Rambo's lessons became our mantra for skating. We kept it Pagan.
I met Jason Salfi from Comet Skateboards at the Madison County Gravity Fest in 2008. We sat under a shady Maple tree on the lawn of that abandoned farmhouse, waiting to take our runs together. The vibe of Munnsville,NY, the incredible mixture of adrenaline and the coming together of the tribe. It left me with a good feeling. We hit it off and we promised to keep in touch.
A short time later I contacted Comet about making me a Voodoo. He approached me about collaborating on a new downhill model - THE PAGAN.
Comet was the one company that could produce this board without compromising our original vision. I still owe Rambo for teaching me how to keep it Pagan.
I'm grateful to Jason, and Comet for the opportunity to spread the idea further than I ever would have.
After months of heavy R&D, the new Comet Pagan DH model is ready for action.
It took about three proto stages before we got it tuned in. With me being from the mountains of Colorado, and Comet's factory in Ithica NY, we had to communicate and ship stuff back and forth. I even traced the final shape on Paper and snail-mailed it to Jason!
This new Pagan features 9plys of American Maple. Certified sustainably harvested, along with their e2e Material construction. The shape is reminiscent of a bathtub, with a smooth round concave, and a .5 inch of rocker.
Your feet find the sweet spot as soon as you step onto this rule breaking machine! The epic bombs of Colorado, consist of everything from looping goat paths, with stacks of hairpins. To butter-smooth ski jumps, where all you can do is drop your head and hold on!
The Pagan built for speed, and it can deliver. But it handles tech, drifty gnarliness with ease. With a stable wheelbase of 32.5 inches, and a perfect width of 10 1/8 inches.
Durability is also a huge factor to me, and Comet has built this thing to last!
Leave Babylon behind and stand up on a PAGAN.
Some late winter PAGAN R&D. Heres the PAGAN crew seeking out whatever high mountain bombs, clean enough to slay! This vid features some of best tuck knee bomb-a-thons around. All Colorado!
